Menheniot Playgroup is a local community based pre-school registered with OFSTED and the Pre-school Learning Alliance. We were first established in 1985 to provide childcare for the rural village of Menheniot and the surrounding area.

The group is managed by a voluntary elected committee of parents and is registered for up to 25 children at each session from the age of 2 years to school intake. We have spaces for both funded and fee paying children. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage and encourage learning through play in a wide variety of mediums.

Our setting aims to:

  • Provide high quality, professional care and education for early years children

  • Work in partnership with parents to help children to grow and develop

  • Add to the life and well-being of the local community

  • Offer children and their parents a service that promotes equality and diversity

Our Setting

The Playgroup is based in the Old School building in the heart of the village. Our playroom is light and airy with high ceilings and large windows with an additional room for more physical activities.

We have a courtyard garden and a gated space to the front of playgroup where we encourage outdoor activities. We make the most of our quiet village exploring the willow maze, the church yard, the play park and cricket grounds. We also go on trips to the farm, the moors, the beach, the theatre, wherever the children's interests lead us, encouraging ideas and supporting adventures.

Our Staff

We have highly qualified and experienced long serving staff and boast a very high child to staff ratio. All our staff and committee members are DBS checked. Each child has a key person who oversees their development. Staff have training in Forest School, Safeguarding, Paedeatric First Aid, Health and Safety, Food Hygiene, SENCo, Behaviour Management, Makaton, Emotion Coaching, EDLP and 'Learning Language and Loving it' . Training is always on going.

Celebrating Diversity

We share experiences of diverse cultures from Chinese New Year and Diwali, to Mothers day and Pancake day. We have a variety of multi-cultural resources such as photographs, jigsaws and dressing up clothes. All our families are invited in to talk about their cultural experiences, if they are different or the same. All children are treated equally and beliefs are integrated into the curriculum.

The Personal Touch

If your child has any special dietary needs we are able to adapt our healthy snacks and resources as and when required.

Moving On

We have strong links with our local school including an excellent transition process.

OFSTED

The Playgroup is regularly inspected by OFSTED and the last visit in September 2018 resulted in us achieving "OUTSTANDING" which we are very proud of. You can read our full inspection report here.
